Lousy Rotten Stinkin’ Grapes by Margie Palatini

Margie Palatini is a doodler and a dabbler with a big imagination, and she likes writing stories that make children laugh.  In 1997, her book Piggie Pie! won the first state-wide Red Clover Award.  Palatini lives in New Jersey with her family.

Barry Moser is an internationally reowned printmaker and illustrator who was named a New England Living Treasure in 1983.  He lives in western Massachusetts with his wife, two English mastiffs and four cats and he teaches art at Smith College.” (Red Clover Award Educator Resource Guide, 2010)

Bubble Trouble by Margaret Mahy

“‘Little Mabel blew a bubble, and it caused a lot of trouble…’ Indeed, it engulfs her baby brouthe and wafts him away.  Mahy’s nonsensical poem floats it waves along with the bouncing baby across watercolor and cut-paper spreads.  With a little practice the tongue-twisting alliterations, rhyme, and unfamiliar names will fall easily off readers’ tongues.

Margaret Mahy is the author of more than 200 books for children and young adults, tow of which have received the England’s Carnegie Medal.  In 2006 she received the Hans Christian Andersen award in recognition of her ‘lasting contributions to children’s literature.’ The Margaret Mahy Mdeal Award recognizes excellence in children’s literature, publishing, and literacy in New Zealand, where she lives.

Polly Dunbar lives and works in Brighton, England.  She thinks that color is a brilliant way to cheer yourself up and whenever she’s feeling gray, she puts on her best pink frock and paints!  When Polly is not illustrating, she likes to make puppets.  Polly is the daughter of author Joyce Dunbar with whom he collaborated on the picture book Shoe Baby.

Chicken Little by Rebecca and Ed Emberley

“Chicken Little isn’t the brightest chicken in the coop, so when an acorn falls and hits him on the head, he  thinks the sky is falling.  Thus begins the familiar story you may think you know-but this one ends with a twist.  The witty text is complemented by vivid, bold collage-like illustrations.

Rebecca Emberley has created over 30 children’s books, including  My Mother’s Secret Life.  Here she is teamed up with her father, Ed Emberley, author/illustrator of over 80 children’s books including Drummer Hoff, a Caldecott winner.  Both New Englanders, Rebecca lives in Maine, her dad in Massachusetts.” (Red Clover Award Educator Resource Guide, 2010)
